Street Food Series: Sate Ayam

Street foods in Indonesia are famous with varieties and taste superb mostly.  Though it sells from a very humble place and less hygiene, but for Indonesian the traditional way to prepare the food is what makes it taste super delicious.

Many big hotels in Indonesia try to imitate the “traditional taste” but 99% Indonesian will say the taste cannot compete with those sells by the village people, though it cooked by super chef who has foreign culinary degrees 🙂

Sate or  Satay, is one of the traditional Indonesian street food that well known and easy likeable by foreigner or tourist who visits Indonesia. The meats usually from chicken and goat (kambing), chicken satay and kambing satay

Whats makes it special is the spices conclude in sweet black soy sauce (kecap), this kecap is hard to imitate by other countries, as for many generations the recipe is only stay in the kecap producer’s family.  Other thing is how they barbeque it using coal made from coconut shells, which put special smells to the meat.

The price to enjoy this delicious (street food price) is only between Rp 14,000 to Rp 25,000 (Indonesian Rupiahs) or US$1.2 to US$2.00
