One of our future family plan (my husband and I) is having a big beautiful green soil land and grows our own farm field.
Before get into that big phase, me myself would like to start something small, so small not even 5 square meters haha but hope it turns out fruitfully.
I learn how to plant seeds without soil first by using the hydroponic technique, I saw some small and green vegetables grew well in some kind of pots, so I bought the things to start my own hydroponic garden.
I named it “Angel” because of my name and hope Angels will bless and guide the plants.
The seeds that I try to grow are
green leafs Lettuce (쌈 ~ Ssam),
and red spinach
Let’s start with preparing the tools and seeds to start this hydroponic garden
Plastic square buckets, plastic pots, flannel which treated as some kind of wick to absorb the water, fertilizer pack with new plastic bottles to mix, rock wool and seeds.
Mixed the fertilizer in bottle A and B, each with 500ml water, put it aside in room temperature.
Prepare the rock wool, dip it into water until it absorb enough water and cast it aside.
Prepare the water in the plastic square buckets, about half of the bucket’s height, it’s about 1 cm below the plastic pots, don’t let the plastic pot soaked directly into water.
Prepare the plastic pot, slip the flannel wick as it is roots to absorb water.
Get the rock wool, as I have 12 plastic pots, so I divided that one block rock wool into 12 pieces and stuffed inside the plastic pots.
Prepare the seeds, I use straw cut diagonally to put the seeds into the rock wool, but first make a 2 holes using toothpick about 1 cm deep.
For green lettuce and red spinach you can put 2 seeds for each 1 rock wool pot,
For pak choi/bok choy only 1 seed for 1 rock wool pot.
Don’t ask me why I just follow the instruction 🙂 so it will grow well.
Okay let’s wait until the seeds grow and when its time to add the fertilizer on the water.
Day 6 after planting seeds
This is how it look likes
And now its time to give fertilizer
Take the prepared bottle hydroponic A and bottle hydroponic B, the measurement is
5 ml fertilizer A + 5 ml fertilizer B for every 1 liter water
Mine I used 3 liters on the bucket so that’s mean 15 ml each.
How to measure 5 ml, if you see plastic spoon I use on the photo, it is 1 spoon = 5 ml
Mixed well both A + B in the water. This time I change with new clean water before put the fertilizer.
Let’s wait about 2 weeks or so, for the vegetables real grow. Hope it grows well 🙂
to be continued…
